Scenes from a Stroll...

Warm sunshine and feeling good promoted outing and abouting in this Santa Rosa neighborhood. The scenes were good for the soul.

We came across this yard, dotted with donated pumpkins and the offer to share our gratitude. I loved this idea and left my inscription gleefully.

Pumpkins were still out, in full force. This unicorn evoked a smile.
We even paused for a round of tick-tack-toe with adorably painted rocks.

If one doesn't have her own garden, she can certainly ogle and appreciate others'. It was a perfect stroll.

"The garden suggests there might be a place
where we can meet nature halfway."

I Had the FLU...

I've been silent due to the fact I've been under the weather. I awoke on Wednesday with a fever after a night of chills. Normally the flu isn't such a big deal but when one thinks "if I could get the flu, I could totally get the coronavirus." It is frightening.

My first course of action was to book a COVID test. The second, and wisest, was to call TELEMED. After describing my symptoms, the doctor mainly advised me to get tested.

That's where advocating for myself came in. I requested a prescription for Tamiflu, a drug that has worked wonders for Steve in the past. IF you take it within 48 hours of first feeling ill, it lessens all of the flu's debilitating symptoms and shortens the duration of the virus. At $100, it is a costly gamble but my brilliant husband found a coupon, making this powerful pill affordable ($39).

After just one dose, I felt much better. The doctor said that if it was COVID, it would not have an impact. I was hopeful...

And right, it turns out.
The result of your COVID-19 Nasal RT-PCR test that was administered on 11/18/2020 is Negative. Your Public Health Department has been notified of this result as required by law. If you feel well and do not have a fever or cough, you may go about your normal activity abiding by your state and local health department recommendations.

Here's to more handwashing and hopefully staying healthier from here on out.

Bodega's Calvary Cemetery c. 1869

Wanting an explore, and a history lesson, before the rains come, we headed to the pastoral town of Bodega, an interesting place not only to visit, but to lie in eternal rest it turns out.

In 1869, the first burial took place in a hillside cemetery that rises above rural Bodega Highway just west of the town. That interment mourned the death of a 7-year-old boy named Thomas Johnson.
Since then, members of the Bodega area’s pioneering and leading families have been buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery - Albinis, Colombos, Fitzpatricks, Franceschis, Furlongs, Gleasons, Gonnellas, O’Farrells, Pozzis, Stumps and others.
This is the gravemarker for the second little boy buried here, in 1869, five year old Willie Long.
The O’Farrells include the Irish immigrant who once was the richest man in Sonoma County. Jasper O’Farrell, who worked as the first land surveyor for San Francisco before Sonoma County voters elected him to the state Senate, died in 1875. The graveyard in which he lies sometimes is called St. Teresa’s Cemetery because of its connection to the town’s classic Catholic church, St. Teresa of Avila, made famous around the world by its cameo in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film, The Birds. I did a blog about Hitchcock on our previous visit to this darling, little town.

Some of its most moving headstones honor children.. Adam John Sumner, born the same month as me, did not survive a decade. So sad. The inscription reads, "Take heart mom I am near, just drop a tear, or two; but speak and I will hear, doubt not I wait for you."

Nicholas Green is also here. If you recall, he was the seven year old American boy (from Bodega) on holiday in Italy who was shot during an attempted robbery in 1994. The killing became a worldwide news event when his parents donated their son's organs to seven very sick Italians, four of them teenagers. This incredible act of forgiveness, and generosity, changed the way organ donations were viewed in Italy. So interesting, all of it.

Scenes of our Travels West...

As we ventured to meet up with our younger son and his family at his in laws', we traversed the road-less-traveled (for us) and delighted in the sights we encountered.

For four evenings, we are camped under the massive redwoods.

Nature is still performing here.

And the hummingbirds visited with abandon!

Lazy days of family, good food and lots of love. Who could ask for anything more?

Another Cool Blog Connection...

When we created this site, it was in 2010 and we were embarking on a Year in Italy. Leaving behind family and friends, we realized a blog was the perfect format for keeping everyone in our La Dolce Vita. I never anticipated the connections to strangers it would forge. The most recent is because of this image. So fun!

Evans Fam has left a new comment on your post "Our Snow Day...":

You have a gorgeous photo of Vikingsholm in the winter in one of your Tahoe posts. Our family loves this place and I wanted to get a large poster print. I haven't found a more beautiful photo of it. If it's your original photo can I buy a digital download from you?

Of course I would send her the image free of charge! This was her response:

A Meander to the Lake...

Jenny joined Steve and me as we embarked on our final Sierra stroll before migrating south. It could not have been more spectacular.

And anytime Jenny is around, so are the beautiful birds.

Our destination was Nevada Beach which offers 1/2 mile of beautiful sandy shoreline with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains.

As we were heading back, we detoured to ogle the almost frozen pond. Oh man, the ducks were putting on a show and were a delight to watch. Such brilliant colors and unique patterning. WOW.

Fall is doing its best to hold on, but arrival of winter is in the air. What an idyllic time to be in Tahoe... we're truly getting all it has to offer.
