Ike and Martin: A Patio Opening!

When this image showed up in my facebook feed, I knew the algorithms finally got it right! There was no way we were going to miss Ike & Martin.

This was our first visit to Shadyside Lounge in Tahoe City. What a perfect reason... A Patio Opening Party.

Turns out it was Ike & Martin's first visit to Shadyside, too. Oh man do I love this duo (previous posts about them can be found here). They make my heart happy!

For those who don't know, Ike & Martin are a Tahoe based supercharged acoustic rock group playing modern classic pop music with great force! Their unique take on classics has endeared them to me, plus they are just amazingly fun and so very entertaining.

As for the location, the website welcomed us to "Shadyside Lounge, a rustic neighborhood Mexican joint. The vision of bringing local culture back to the West Shore was brought to life in November 2023 by Scott Zumwalt, Doug Hartline, and Carmine Bove. Tahoe City was in need of a Mexican restaurant, craft cocktail bar, and sports hub, all of which Shadyside has fulfilled."

Owner Doug was indeed welcoming and he was a very gracious host. He made certain everyone was enjoying themselves. That said, there is no doubt about enjoyment when Ike & Martin are in the house. Wild stuff!

Ike & Martin Captivate Genoa...

The town of Genoa hosts a summer concert series in the park whose motto is, "You bring a picnic & a blanket- We'll mow the lawn for you". Last night was the kick off to the season and was exceptionally performed by our favorites- Ike & Martin.

We began the party at the Genoa Bar, Nevada's Oldest Thirst Parlor.

It was an evening of warm sunshine, great friends, fabulous music and some wild dancing. So dang fun.

What a perfect summer setting.

Steve and Laura joined us from Minden (truly right next door).

Cyndi and Steve mosied over the hill from Tahoe.

Ike & Martin only improve with age. Man these guys entertain!

While summer isn't officially here yet, this evening sure made us feel like it. Here's to a season of merriment and unforgettable memories. Let's rock.

A Hike and Ike & Martin...

A day in Emerald Bay is a phenomenal day. Ending it seeing our favorite Duo made the day truly magical!

Our destination was Eagle Falls. While the quarter mile hike is not a big deal in the Summer, we were all happy we wore cleats, as the stairs were frozen and, at times, quite icy.

And the views were breathtaking.

After going up to Eagle Falls, we went down to Emerald Bay.

I had just said that I hadn't seen any cute snowmen yet this winter. This guy was pretty adorable.

Is this the best picnic spot ever?

We shared Vikingsholm with Eric, making him promise to come back in the Summer and see it in all its glory!

After a delicious dinner at home, we headed to Riva Grill to thoroughly delight in Ike & Martin (note them in the background).

Dessert was Oreo Cookie Beignets and Creme Brulee... Wow!

But the best part of the night was Ike & Martin doing what they do best... making the audience dance in their seats. It had been months since we've seen them and they did not disappoint. Oh man, it is good to be home!

An Evening with Ike & Martin...

When we heard that Ike and Martin were performing at Ike's restaurant, we knew this musical magic was too good to pass up.

We have been fans of this talented duo since moving to Lake Tahoe in 2012. They are showcased on my blog (link here) more than any other topic, excluding Scrabble. That truly says something!

A little about the special location...The Reese-Johnson-Virgin House (1855), more commonly known to locals as The Pink House, stands near the center of town in historic Genoa, Nevada. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its “association with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history”, The Pink House has hosted and borne witness to significant events in Genoa and Nevada’s past. It is also recognized for its architectural significance as an example of the Gothic Revival style that was popular in the 19th century. What a setting! I do love to be in history

When I let Ike know we were coming, he had reserved for us the best table in the house. It could not have been any better. WOW.

What unique talents Ike & Martin are. Ike Marr is a wonder on the viola, mandolin, guitar, and banjo. He grew up a Southern boy from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Classically trained on viola, he naturally embraced mandolin as well as guitar, bass, banjo, brass and keys. His musical influences include Classical, Americana, Rock and Bluegrass.

Martin Shears wows on the guitar, foot bass, dobro, harmonica, and, as we found out tonight, the kazoo. He is a transplanted Englishman who grew up in London around folk musicians. He studied piano at an early age, then guitar, learning every single Beatles song he could: then the Who, then Pink Floyd, then... You get the idea, these guys ROCK!

While the musical interlude was a true highlight, dining at The Pink House was quite magical, too. It was a fabulous 'night on the town' and we can't wait to go back.
