Holiday in History & Festival of Lights

Oh man, I don't think I could feel any more festive! What a night. We were here to experience the magic of the season! Night one, of two enchanting evenings, was filled with delighting in twinkling light displays, local market vendors, live entertainment, visits with Santa, delicious food and drinks, and festive fun for the whole family.

Our first stop was to visit Santa who hosted his guests in the newly restored Nehemiah Osgood’s Toll House, the oldest standing commercial structure in town (1859). I so love being in history.
Santa arrived a few minutes earlier than we thought so we missed his grand entrance via sleigh. A sweet mom standing in line shared a video of the joyous occasion. Oh what fun it is!
I will sit on Santa's lap any chance I get. I am so fortunate that Steve and Cyndi are such great, willing companions.

Even Diane and Stephan got into the Ho, Ho, Ho spirit. What a fabulous Santa on which to sit.
This was an evening of connecting with friends. We met up with Robert in the completely furnished, and amazingly adorned, 1930s log cabin. We truly stepped back in time when we crossed its threshold. Wow.

A visit to the Museum allowed us to learn a little more about South Lake Tahoe's history. It was also a warming hut of camaraderie. Here, too, we ran into friends.

We will not be in town with this firetruck cruises through the various neighborhoods, a true annual highlight. It was fun that we had the opportunity to see it before its departure.

Everything is merry and bright!
A surprising treat was the opportunity to admire the numerous, incredible gingerbread houses entered in the annual competition. I photographed only a small sampling. I don't think I've ever been more impressed with edible art in my entire life. There is some serious talent here. WOW.

Yes, in the window of this exceptional home, a dog lies on the bed. Oh my gosh!
One of my favorites was this rendition of the Valhalla Boathouse by Irene Sue, Gage Robbins, and Andrew & Lincoln Erwin.

Photo opportunities and live music made the evening that much more special.

Oh, did I mention sleigh rides?

The best part was being with friends and sharing in all the winter wonderment. Karen Salmansohn said it aptly, "The best gift around the Christmas tree is the presence of friends."
Through the magic of AI, Steve helped me express the JOY I felt tonight. What an evening of Merry & Bright. Fun stuff.
