Porch Time with Gene & Joanne...
Braving the 30° temperature, Gene and Joanne visited with us on their front porch. I first wrote about this amazing couple in 2013. I thought the story needed to be repeated.
One of the most surprising phenomenon we discovered, upon moving to our neighborhood, was the history found, not only in the vintage cabins, but within the residents themselves. Spending time with Gene and Joanne is always spellbinding.Gene's parents purchased their lot in Bijou Pines in 1932. Driving up in their Durant Motors Star Car, they built a tent and would summer here most of their lives with their twins (Gene is on the right). Gene is the keeper of the family's treasures and both of these boats, which sailed on Lake Tahoe, are on display in their beautiful mountain home (which is as much museum as house).
Each time we're in the company of this couple we are delighted by the stories they share. Theirs truly is a life well lived and we're so happy to be a part of it, if only just a tiny part.
According to Inc.com, "Having friends of different ages makes you smarter, more resilient, and more open-minded. Intergenerational friendships bring joy while offering big benefits, according to science."
This must be true since I feel that way with my wonderful group of unique and varied friends.
