Talladega Nights (2006) is one of those movies I shouldn't like but once over the initial shock of it all, the film grows on you. When I saw we were passing the Superspeedway where it all takes place, I knew we had to stop (at least for the photo opportunities).

During the 1960s, William "Bill" France, Sr. wanted to build a track faster and longer than Daytona International Speedway. After some failed searches, he broke ground on an old airfield in 1968. The track was named the "Alabama International Motor Speedway". The name would remain for twenty years until 1989 when the facility's name was changed to Talladega Superspeedway. The track opened on September 13, 1969 at a cost of $4 million and currently seats 80,000 spectators. One day, we'll have to come here for more than just photos.




This is the skyline of Atlanta as we zoomed by it heading for our campsite for the night. Tomorrow, we will enter the city and explore as much as we can. This is our first visit to Atlanta and we have more to see than time in which to do it. Challenge accepted!
