South Tahoe Garden Club's #50
In the early days, this club of talented women were lovingly nicknamed the Ta Hoes (before the word meant something other than a gardening implement).
The group formed in the 1960s by a handful of women seeking a social activity with a purpose. They chose gardening. They did beautiful public landscaping programs. |
The 50th anniversary celebration was aptly held at the Baldwin Estate Garden, a once rock filled barren space, now lovingly planted. It's a magical place to just be. |
I joined some of the Garden Club's members for a walk through the gardens, and listened to stories of the lawns and gardens of the past that are such a part of Tahoe's history. |
There
can be no other occupation like gardening in which,
if you were to
creep up behind someone at their work,
you would find them smiling.

What a pretty location. How great that Steve brought his hoe.

Did you know that in 1969 the South Tahoe Garden Club published a cookbook? It's called a Book of Favorite Recipes. Compiled by the South Tahoe Garden Club and friends.
