South Tahoe Garden Club's #50

In the early days, this club of talented women were lovingly nicknamed the Ta Hoes (before the word meant something other than a gardening implement).

The group formed in the 1960s by a handful of women seeking a social activity with a purpose. They chose gardening.  They did beautiful public landscaping programs.
The 50th anniversary celebration was aptly held at the Baldwin Estate Garden, a once rock filled barren space, now lovingly planted.  It's a magical place to just be.
I joined some of the Garden Club's members for a walk through the gardens, and listened to stories of the lawns and gardens of the past that are such a part of Tahoe's history.
There can be no other occupation like gardening in which,
if you were to creep up behind someone at their work,
you would find them smiling.

What a pretty location. How great that Steve brought his hoe.

Did you know that in 1969 the South Tahoe Garden Club published a cookbook? It's called a Book of Favorite Recipes. Compiled by the South Tahoe Garden Club and friends.
