Hanging Out on a Yacht!

Our Friday afternoon was spent on the iconic Safari Rose as it opened its doors to the public for a special dockside Open House at Ski Run Marina.

"Guests are invited to tour one of Lake Tahoe’s most recognizable vessels, meet the crew, and enjoy complimentary refreshments while experiencing a unique piece of Tahoe maritime history."

The Safari Rose is without a doubt the largest, most luxurious yacht on Lake Tahoe. Built in 1959 for the 3M Corporation, she's 80 ft long and 20 feet wide, has 6 bathrooms, a dining room, a heated salon with leather and teak, full bar, beautiful enclosed fantail, sun deck and even a cozy fireplace.
She's been to the Great Lakes, cruised the eastern seaboard to Florida, the Caribbean, sailed through the Panama Canal to the Puget Sound and north to Alaska and now is here on which to spend a wonderful Friday afternoon.

The Safari Rose regularly hosts sightseeing cruises, private charters, weddings, corporate gatherings, and specialty excursions across beautiful Lake Tahoe. As a matter of fact, this is my and Steve's third time on the Rose. We actually went out on it as guests for a birthday party and once to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary.

The yacht has been out of commission for the last couple of years in order to replace the engines. Steve was very impressed with not only the hardware but also with the logistics that allowed the replacement to happen.
Nothing says "Weekend" like one wearing a life preserver, sitting on a yacht pretending that it's yours, in the company of some of one's favorite people. I 💛 Tahoe.

JT's #60 on Safari Rose...

Our friend/neighbor Robert invited us to his friend's birthday party and we four gleefully accepted.

What we have discovered here in Tahoe is:  the "more the merrier" is a favorite mantra;  the generosity and true kindness is unbelievable;  and JT knows how to throw a party!

It was a "pinch me" moment like no other and we were so happy that our fun houseguests were able to be a part of it all.
One of the best parts was getting to know Robert better!

Capt. Clark approached Fannette Island, in Emerald Bay, at a pretty fast speed.  I guess the tradition is the "birthday boy" has to kiss the rock.  Everyone on the boat, and spectators on the Island, expressed their concerns but after not crashing, and the required kiss, cheers were heard throughout the bay.  Awesome!


One of my favorite birthday quotes is, "A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun.  Enjoy the trip."  I'm pretty certain JT's 60th year journey is going to be legendary!

A Toast to Die For: An Evening of Mystery at the Library...

My weekend will be pretty full due to the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library Fundraiser, happening this Sunday. From 4-7 PM, A Toast to Die For…An Evening of Mystery at the Library will occur in both inside and outside of the Library and will feature presentations from California and local mystery authors Mark S. Bacon (Death in Nostalgia City), Sue Owens Wright (Beanie and Cruiser Mysteries), Cindy Sample (the Laurel McKay Mysteries) and Kathi Daley (the Zoe Donovan Cozy Mysteries); fine music from strolling guitarist John Smart and the guitar and keyboard duo, Jarod & Nick; and mystery games with a specially designed scavenger hunt and trivia quizzes with prizes for all who dare!

 To keep you fueled for the evening there will be hearty appetizers with wine and beer served by award winning caterer Diane Wilkinson. Especially enticing, thanks to our local merchants and supporters, is the evening’s Silent Auction. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on a very wide variety of items. A few highlights include a complete set of Todd Borg mysteries, a Kelty backpack, a sunset cruise for two on Tahoe Cruises' Safari Rose and a stay-cation at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. Please bring cash or checks and go home with some very good deals!

 Tickets may be purchased for $45 per person at the Library through Saturday August 22. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door on Sunday, but be warned: Our last event was a sell out!

 The South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library supports our local Library through its monetary contributions to special programs for children, teens, and adults. Increasingly, we supplement the books and materials budget and provide funding to promote and advocate for our Library. We are grateful to our generous community and hope to see you at this fun-filled event. Can't wait!!!

A Cruise for our Anniversary...

Back in March, we enjoyed an exceptional evening at the South Shore EXPOsed Business Expo.  While there, we placed our business card in many drawing buckets and gleefully won a Sunset voyage on the Safari Rose which is, without a doubt the largest, most luxurious yacht on Lake Tahoe.

Built in 1959 for the 3M Corporation, she's 80ft long and 20 feet wide, has 6 bathrooms, dining room, a heated salon with leather and teak, full bar, beautiful enclosed fantail, sun deck and even a cozy fireplace. She's been to the Great Lakes, cruised the eastern seaboard to Florida, the Caribbean, sailed through the Panama Canal to the Puget Sound and north to Alaska and now is here on which to celebrate.

We saved our opportunity to embark on this fine boat as our 26th anniversary celebration.  We cruised the Lake in style and delighted in our 9,504th sunset as husband and wife.  Perfection!
