Gift from the Sea & the Lake

We returned to our little cabin in the pines in record time, driving 475 miles in 8 ¼ hours.

A book that has been on my bookshelf far too long helped pass the time. Gift from the Sea has aptly been described as "an inimitable, beloved classic—graceful, lucid and lyrical—Anne Morrow Lindbergh shares her meditations on youth and age; love and marriage; peace, solitude and contentment as she set them down during a brief vacation by the sea. Drawing inspiration from the shells on the shore, Lindbergh’s musings on the shape of a woman’s life bring new understanding to both men and women at any stage of life. A mother of five, an acclaimed writer and a pioneering aviator, Lindbergh casts an unsentimental eye on the trappings of modernity that threaten to overwhelm us: the time-saving gadgets that complicate rather than simplify, the multiple commitments that take us from our families. And by recording her thoughts during a brief escape from everyday demands, she helps readers find a space for contemplation and creativity within their own lives." Written 70 years ago, I'm surprised by how relevant it still is today. I want to embrace this quote, “I find there is a quality to being alone that is incredibly precious. Life rushes back into the void, richer, more vivid, fuller than before.” Needless-to-say, this long-awaited read kept me spellbound... for all 130 wonderful pages!
We were given a gift from the lake as well. As soon as we unloaded, we headed to our true happy place, the shore. The weather was idyllic and such eye candy we found along the way. Fall has truly arrived in Lake Tahoe.
“Autumn is a second spring
when every leaf is a flower.”

I am glad you had safe travels! The picture of you and the Fall tree is great. It looks like you arrived to beautiful scenery.
I love love Gift from the Sea! I have three copies in different formats, including a copy from England that I won in a drawing:)
