Errands then to Marbella...
We began our day with errands. We picked up our rental van and promptly headed to Costco for supplies to begin our 3½ week stay in España.
Late in the afternoon we were to pick up our younger son and his family but before then we knew we needed some staples so what better place to go to than Costco?!Most of it felt like home but the emphasis on ham was felt pretty much everywhere.
Jamón - The Artisanal Ham Of Spain. Jamón is at the heart of Spanish culture and cuisine. While Spain's regions vary in their local food traditions, cured Serrano and Ibérico hams are treasured from coast to coast, from the markets of Barcelona to the bars of Galicia and everywhere in between.
Jamón is so loved, it even adorns socks!
Our home for the next week is the quaint town of Marbella. What is so special about Marbella? According to the town's PR, "With its sun-drenched beaches and luxury feel, it's no surprise that Marbella is one of the Costa del Sol's most popular destinations. Between relaxing, shopping and visiting museums, you can party with rockstars or tee off at exclusive golf courses."
Our day's end found us here. One of the most scenic historic districts on the entire Costa del Sol, Marbella’s Old Town is something incredible. "Get lost in the labyrinth of cobblestone alleyways, admiring the traditional whitewashed houses decorated with bright splashes of colorful flowers. Surrounded by the remains of the 10th-century castle walls, a walk here offers a great view of the city."Our dinner at Bar Altamirano was the perfect kick-off to this holiday.

Restaurants in the area offer a wide variety of fresh fish, from sardines and anchovies to sea bass and sea bream, Prepared in a variety of ways to satisfy all tastes." The kids ordered two plates of this. I chose the mixed salad with tuna... as wild as I get.
