The Giant Sequoias of Yosemite...

There is so much history in this Park. The Mariposa Grove, near Yosemite's South Entrance, contains about 500 mature giant sequoias. Giant sequoias are perhaps the largest living things on Earth and a giant reason President Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act, 150 years ago. They needed to be protected.

They believe the Fallen Monarch has been down for centuries.

Before they were ordered to be protected, someone thought it a good idea to cut a path through the California Tunnel Tree (1895).
The Faithful Couple is a rare case in which two trees grew so close together that their trunks have fused together at the base. I love the name, given to it by Jessie Frémont (John C's wife).
So much to hug!!!
In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt camped in this grove with John Muir. We stumbled upon a filming of that important happening while wandering.

How incredible to see these two Yosemite heroes. It was a living history lesson.
The day concluded, fireside, for a camping tradition... S'mores! Tomorrow, s'more fun is planned. What a great day.

What a fun kit! I can't believe you can have a campfire at your campsite. To me a campfire defines camping, but unfortunately they are frowned upon just about everywhere.
Enjoy!
