Last Visit to Angora Lakes?

After a week of cold and rain followed by this morning which didn't scream, "Let's go frolic in an alpine lake!", we forged ahead on our long held plans for a day at Angora Lakes Resort.

There's a saying we heard when we first moved to Tahoe... "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes!"
By the time we parked the car, layers were being peeled off. This was an exciting day. Sharon hadn't been to Angora in about 20 years and this was her daughter Erin's inaugural visit. It was an absolutely perfect day.
The walk demanded frequent pauses- not only to catch our breath but to admire the beauty of it all. Wow.

Angora Lakes Resort began in 1917 on Upper Angora Lake to offer rustic cabin rentals to visitors. The area's history, however, is tied to the pioneer Nathan Gilmore, who discovered Angora Springs in 1863 and raised Angora goats there in the 1870s, giving the lakes their name. The resort currently features nine historic, rustic cabins available for weekly rentals from June to mid-September. It also serves the most delicious coffee and is my favorite place in which to escape.

The backdrop looks almost fake. Yes, the most beautiful coffee spot ever (or at least pretty dang close).

"A lake is the landscape's most beautiful
and expressive feature.
It is earth's eye;
looking into which the beholder measures
the depth of his own nature."
-Henry David Thoreau
It is always magical to be on a lake with a friend.

If summer must end, I'm happy for these memories that will sustain me.

"Alas, summer sun can’t last forever.
The days will grow cooler and shorter
and our skin will once again pale.”
-Sarah MacLean
