The Haerr Men in the Desert

Our youngest found the incredible male bonding event, King of the Hammers, and arranged to have his brother and Dad join in all the fun.

King of The Hammers national race series, Ultra4 Racing, is considered the toughest week of one-day, off-road races in the world.
The race has evolved from 12 teams racing for bragging rights and a case of beer, to more than 530 teams competing before more than 80,000 fans in person and 2 million viewers online.

"The defining characteristics of this class are the sturdy 4-wheel drive and unlimited builds. These cars come in all shapes and sizes, are capable of speeds over 100+ mph and contain gear ratios as low as 100 to 1 for technical rock crawling." Yes, I don't get it either but the guys were duly impressed.

The series challenges drivers to compete in a wide variety of terrain from endurance desert racing, competition-style rock crawls, short course racing and more.
Everyone was so kind including the participants, the spectators, the vendors, and even the Marines... Oorah!
Both boys impressed the Marines with their pull-up prowess. "Pain is just weakness leaving your body."
Excitedly, the boys didn't have to be just spectators! They were each offered three, free demo rides (which they drove freely). That whet their appetites for ownership and all were texting home to their wives for purchasing permission (which was denied). What fun!

The view of a massive sea of RVs was blocked by the ominous cloud of dust that permeated the entire valley. Thankfully, buffs were given out freely so there was some protection from sun and sand.
What incredible feats of driving skill and machine power.

Life with the other campers (those are their lights in the distance in these two photos) was just too raucous so the boys found a spot above the chaos and enjoyed quiet views of the nighttime magic for their three night stay.
All agreed that this could become a new family tradition: the boys in the desert and us moms home with the kiddos. Everyone loved it all. What memories.

Wow. What an event! I have never heard of it before. It is kind of apocalyptic... Looks like an adventure.
