Saying 'See You Soon' to friends...

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society hosted a going away party for our friends, Dick & Joan.

About this amazing couple:  We moved to South Lake Tahoe, knowing absolutely no one. We spent our first couple weeks fixing up our cabin and visiting our children. Then I had read in the Tahoe Daily Tribune about the 1st Wednesday of the Month's "Coffee with the Publisher" and I knew this was the opportunity to learn more about our new hometown. The Newspaper Lady has to be able to shed information to the newcomers.

Also, at our coffee date was another couple, a bit wiser than us, but equally outgoing- Dick and Joan. They had followed the snow plow out of Christmas Valley and were there to discuss a variety of issues. As we spoke, I learned that of all the people we could have met, 26 days after moving to the area, we were introduced to the two most connected. There was nothing they weren't involved in. The bond between us four was almost instantaneous.

This welcoming couple shared their connections with the Historical Society and Joan invited me to the next AAUW Writing Group- Talking on Paper, which fortunately was at Bona Fide Books, a place that has since become a beacon of activity and camaraderie for Steve and me with Kim Wyatt being a huge part of our literary and social fun. The TOP gals have grown into a warm and welcoming fellowship of friends. Their enthusiasm and hospitality ranks high on my Top Tahoe Treasures list. All because of Joan.
