It's "Dead" here in Paris...
with an underground explore of the Catacombs and a visit to the cemetery.
Catacombes de Paris are an underground ossuary (Noun: A container or room into which the bones of dead people are placed) holding about 6 million Parisians. Opened in the late 18th century, the underground cemetery became a tourist attraction on a small scale from the early 19th century, and has been open to the public on a regular basis from 1867. This is an interesting "look" at Paris and it's history and one that we really looked forward to. |
The sign above Kegan reads, "Stop! This is the Empire of Death!" Needless-to-say, we kept going! Gruesome and fun at the same time! |
We began to appreciate Rossini after seeing his opera performed by CCM Spoleto. He was in Paris from 1824-1829 leading the Théâtre-Italien. |
The sadness captured in this statue seemed to say so much. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." This was an interesting last full day in Paris...
