Day #16: At Sea...
After our normal morning routine, today was our first FULL POOL DAY since embarking on this adventure.
This is where we could be found until the sun went down.
At 10:30 AM, we witnessed the Crossing the Line Ceremony. This is a time-honored tradition on ships, primarily in the Navy, that marks the first time a sailor or passenger crosses the Equator. It's a rite of passage from being a pollywog (someone who hasn't crossed) to a shellback (someone who has). The ceremony included silly fun, with lots of fish kissing, and is considered more of a morale booster and entertainment event than a harsh initiation, as it once was. We are so excited to be shellbacks now.How often does one get the opportunity to hang out with King Neptune and his court of mermaids? What fun!
After the morning's entertainment, I enjoyed getting more into my current novel. "London 1882: In this, her most demanding case, Frances Doughty goes undercover for Her Majesty's Government to investigate some disturbing information regarding the apparently innocuous Bayswater Bicycle Club. Before long, she is plunged into a murky world of deadly secrets, a suspicious disappearance and a brutal murder, and the Lady Detective is forced to do the unthinkable to avoid becoming the next victim. With a new and exciting future before her, is there anything the dauntless Miss Doughty cannot do?" This is a surprising page-turner!We ate both lunch and dinner poolside. I was excited to see our first Northern Hemisphere sunset.
We spent the rest of our evening watching a very entertaining film, Twisters, while being embraced by warm, balmy breezes."Haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate Cooper gets lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi, to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. She soon crosses paths with Tyler Owens, a charming but reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures. As storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves in a fight for their lives as multiple systems converge over central Oklahoma." What's not to love?!
"A day spent with dreaming and sunsets
and refreshing breezes cannot be bettered."
