Independence Day in Lake Tahoe

All ten Haerrs gathered for this, our Country's 249th birthday and the day could not have been more idyllic.
South Lake Tahoe's 10th Annual Independence Day Parade did not disappoint.

There was truly something for everyone!
The cleverness of this still being finished float for Procrastinators Anonymous (PA) cracked me up. I had to do some research. According to the AI Overview, "There appears to be no specific listing for a Procrastinators Anonymous meeting location within South Lake Tahoe. However, PA does offer virtual meetings via Zoom. They have a 24/7 check-in room and designated times for 12-step style meetings." Hahaha.

Smokey Bear was a hit with the grandchildren.

This snowplow was surprisingly entertaining as it showed off all it could do as it drove the parade route. Fun stuff.

The D.A.R.'s float was a fantastic reminder of why we were there!
Afterward, we spent the rest of the morning playing in our little neighborhood. Four Square brought back childhood memories that were welcomed.
Our cousins organize a neighborhood parade every 4th of July and today's was the best attended. There were at least 30 participants and it lasted almost an hour.

Our day concluded lakeside for the 9:45 (!) The Lights on the Lake Fireworks extravaganza. This show is ranked in the top ten in the nation. Tonight's spectacle earned all the accolades and recognition it can get. Wow.
This couple, on a Stand Up Paddleboard, had the best seat for the show.
These swimmers remained in the chilly lake for the entire performance. Crazy.

For me, it's the reflection that bathes the Lake in light that makes this location the most magical.

"
"Fireworks had for her a direct and magical appeal.
Their attraction was more complex
than that of any other form of art.
They had pattern and sequence,
color and sound, brilliance and mobility;
they had suspense, surprise,
and a faint hint of danger; above all,
they had the supreme quality of transience,
which puts the keenest edge on beauty
and makes it touch some spring in the heart
which more enduring excellences cannot reach."

This family day was one that will remain a treasured memory for each of us. I'm already excited for next year!
